Lighting LUX values

There are many standards pertaining to the recommended lighting lux values and the Health & Safety Executive document HSG38 provides guidance on how lighting affects the health and safety of people at work. The CIBSE (The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) also publishes guides to lighting requirements in different environments including:

  • CIBSE Lighting guide (LG02) Hospitals and health care buildings
  • CIBSE Lighting guide (LG03) Areas for visual display terminals
  • CIBSE Lighting guide (LG04) Sports
  • CIBSE Lighting guide (LG05) Lecture, teaching and conference rooms
  • CIBSE Lighting guide (LG06) The outdoor environment
  • CIBSE Lighting guide (LG07) Office Lighting
  • CIBSE Lighting Guide (LG08) Museums and art galleries

CIBSE publications are intended as guidance only. They have no legal standing in themselves, however, they are often cited within project contracts.
